Which macOS permissions AutoCast needs on first launch

AutoCast asks for Screen Recording and Microphone access the first time you record — here's why, and what to do if you skipped it.

Updated 2026-07-23 · AutoCast v3.0 · macOS 14+

Who this is for

Anyone who sees a blank or frozen recording, or wants to know what AutoCast can access before granting permission.

What AutoCast asks for

Steps

  1. Click Record in AutoCast. macOS will prompt for each permission the first time it’s needed.
  2. Click Allow on each system prompt.
  3. If you accidentally clicked Don’t Allow: open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording (and Microphone) and enable AutoCast manually.
  4. Restart AutoCast after changing permissions in System Settings — macOS doesn’t apply the change until the app relaunches.

What you should see

A live preview of your screen (and camera, if enabled) in the AutoCast recording window before you hit record.
