What stays on your Mac, always
Your screen recording — never transmitted anywhere.
Your camera video — never transmitted anywhere.
The raw audio track of your recording — your actual voice recording never leaves your Mac.
Speech-to-text transcription — runs entirely on-device, using Apple Silicon’s built-in Vision and Speech frameworks. AutoCast doesn’t send audio to any server to generate a transcript.
Your projects and exported videos — stored locally, along with any voice reference sample you record, at ~/.autocast/ on your Mac.
What gets sent to the cloud, and why
Transcript text only, to AutoCast’s translation provider. Once on-device transcription produces text, that text — not audio — is sent off your Mac so it can be translated into your chosen target language. This is the only reason transcript text leaves your Mac.
A short voice reference sample, to AutoCast’s voice-synthesis provider. To generate a dub in your own cloned voice, AutoCast sends a short sample of your voice — drawn from your recording’s mic track, or from a separate sample you record in-app — along with the translated script, so the provider can synthesize speech in your voice for that dub.
How your voice sample is used
It’s used only to generate audio for your own dubs.
It is not published, shared with other users, or made available for anyone else to use.
It is not used to train models available to other AutoCast customers.
What you should see
Nothing to configure here — this is how AutoCast is built. If you’d rather not send anything to translation or voice-synthesis providers, you can still record, edit, and export in your original language entirely offline; dubbing is the only step that requires an internet connection.
Common issues
“Does AutoCast upload my screen recording?” No — screen recording, camera, and raw voice audio never leave your Mac, under any circumstance.
“Can I delete the voice sample AutoCast stores?” Yes — your local voice sample and projects are plain files on your Mac and can be deleted at any time.
“Who are the translation and voice-synthesis providers?” AutoCast uses third-party providers for translation and voice synthesis; the underlying provider can vary by the voice engine you select in-app. All are contracted not to use your voice sample to train models available to other customers.
